Choose by purchase unit
Use cubic yards when the supplier loads by volume, tons when material is sold across a scale, and whole bags for retail packages. Density links volume and weight but varies by product, moisture, and gradation, so each calculator keeps it editable.
Material pages are not name swaps
The tools differ where the purchase does: soil settles and is bagged by volume, decorative rock is commonly sold by ton, decomposed granite needs a compaction allowance, and mulch uses low-density cubic-foot packages. Use project tools when one job needs several materials.
