Yard material calculators
Every calculator turns a measured area and a depth or rate into cubic yards, tons, bags, waste, and a printable material list. Pick a project below to get a planning estimate before you buy bags or order a bulk load.
Patios, walls, paths & driveways
Hardscape, gravel & stone
Estimate base gravel, bedding sand, blocks, mortar, and decorative or driveway stone for hardscape projects.
Beds, lawns, soil & compost
Soil, lawn & garden
Estimate soil, compost, mulch, grass, sod, and fill for beds, raised boxes, lawns, and grading.
How to choose a calculator
Most yard projects come down to area times depth. If you are filling, covering, or topping something — gravel, soil, mulch, compost, or paver base — start with the calculator for that material, enter the length, width, and depth, and read the cubic yards and bag count. Walls and lawns work a little differently: the concrete block calculator works from wall face area, and the grass seed calculator works from a seeding rate per 1,000 square feet.
If a project needs more than one material, use a few calculators together. A patio, for example, usually pairs the paver base calculator for base gravel and bedding sand with edging and pavers you measure separately. A new raised bed pairs the raised bed soil calculator with the compost calculator to plan the blend.
What every calculator gives you
Each page shows the formula and the default assumptions it used, converts the result into cubic feet, cubic yards, tons, and bag counts, and builds a plain material list you can print or copy. A quick-reference table on each page shows coverage or rates at common depths. Everything is a planning estimate: supplier density, moisture, bag fill, and site conditions vary, so confirm the final amount with the product label or your local supplier before buying.
